Starke County Sheriff’s Department Responds to 2-Vehicle Crash Late Tuesday Morning

A two-vehicle crash that took place late Tuesday morning resulted in one driver being airlifted for non-life threatening injuries. According to a press release, Starke County Sheriff’s Department Officers responded to a call about an accident with unknown injuries around 11:12 a.m. on May 29th.

They arrived at the scene and found that two vehicles were involved in an accident at the intersection of County Roads 500 South and 350 East. Officers found that the drivers of both vehicles were injured and one was trapped inside his vehicle.

The investigation reportedly indicated that 40-year-old Jason Maroules was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer and failed to the right of way of a Northbound vehicle driven by 85-year-old Richard Byer.

Byer was transported to Starke Memorial for his injuries. Maroules was airlifted from the scene by Lutheran Air and transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Each drivers’ injuries were not life-threatening.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Starke County EMS and the Knox and Bass Lake Fire Departments.
