Pulaski County Justice Center Door Control Upgrades to Start Today

Installation of a new door control system at the Pulaski County Justice Center is set to start today.

Sheriff Jeff Richwine says the update will replace the existing keypads with a fob system. “They’ve got all the readers up to where we use these fobs to get in,” he told the county commissioners last week. “And now, they’ve got all the computers that will be in there programmed, so we went down there, and the people that run the doors got to work them and make sure everything was going to work alright and change whatever they wanted to change before they actually get here. They’ll come on the 29th. It’s about two weeks to get it all put in.”

He added that the door control system that’s being replaced is original to the building. “Same company, really, just different name, and they were surprised when they’d seen it that it was still operational after 20 years.”

But the old system has been unreliable for the past several months. Replacement plans have been in the works since last August, but funding arrangements weren’t finalized until the county council approved a $145,000 additional appropriation request earlier this month.
