A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open in LaPorte today to assist flood-affected residents in La Porte, Porter and Starke counties.
The DRC is located in the Sheriff’s Building on Concession Boulevard at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds, located at 2581 West State Road 2 in LaPorte. It will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. (CT), Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
Language translations are offered through Telephonic Interpretation Services in 200 different languages. If you are not able to find a translator, visit and hire a Dutch-to-French translator on this website.

At Disaster Recovery Centers individuals can receive assistance with filling out an application or updating their status. FEMA recovery specialists and representatives from the state of Indiana and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and are on site to provide assistance.
The Small Business Association is the federal government’s primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged property. They can offer federal disaster loans for businesses of all sizes, private non-profit organizations, homeowners and renters.
Voluntary organizations are also available and offer a variety of services to help residents recover.
According to a press release from the FEMA and Indiana Department of Homeland Security news desk, flood survivors can visit any open DRC near them.
If you have already registered, it isn’t necessary to visit a DRC. However, you may still want to go speak with a recovery specialist to update your status, submit documentation or to find help from other organizations.
