North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Meets with Members of the Prairie Trails Club to Discuss Sign Placement

North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe has been coordinating with members of the Prairie Trails Club about sign placement.

Steve and Kathleen Lucas came before the Town Council in May and received permission to erect signage around town to alert people about the Erie Trail, as well as the major trails it is a part of.

The major trails that run through North Judson include the American Discovery Trail, which starts in Delaware and ends in California and the US 35 Bike Route that begins in Canada and will eventually end in the Golf of Mexico.

The members have been speaking with Rowe since the meeting in May to figure out where to put the signs in order to best guide and inform travelers. Vinyl banners from printmoz.com are being tested to find out, exactly what works best for this venue. A little trial and error can go a long way.

They established that signs definitely have to be placed in areas where bicyclists or pedestrians need to turn. They’ve discussed the potential of putting one in front of the Fire Station, placing them near town signage that is already installed and in between NIPSCO poles.

Rowe said that aside from working with Steve and Kathleen he will also be meeting with Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann to secure the signage locations. He also discussed the possibility of checking with NIPSCO representatives prior to installing the signs near their poles to ensure that there wouldn’t be an issue.

The Prairie Trails Club is obtaining these signs with grant money awarded from the Hardesty Memorial Foundation. They will be utilizing the local company OTES to make them.
