The Pulaski County Justice Center continues to have issues with its backup power system. The county just replaced the building’s battery backup in April. Now, it’s the generator that isn’t working properly.
Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston told the county commissioners Monday that during the most recent power outage, the new “uninterruptible power source” worked perfectly. But it’s only designed to power the building until the generator kicks in. For some reason, that didn’t happen. “I was able to get the generator working that night, but there was no reason for that thing to have faulted out,” Johnston said. “I checked it over. I went through the control panel, and it didn’t give any reasons why that thing didn’t start up.” He said a service technician would take a look at the generator today.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the commissioners that upgrades to the jail’s door control system have begun. “They come today, and of course, turned all the doors off, and they’re putting in all the new computer equipment and everything that will run the new doors,” he said. “They’re saying three days. Hopefully, that’s all it is, because we’re back to turning the keys and getting everybody in and out of the building. That’s no fun and slows everything down.”
The building’s original door control system lasted for about 20 years, but it had been unreliable for the past several months.
