Pulaski County has made $5,000 by selling some unneeded police equipment to Starke County. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county council and commissioners Monday that he recently sold eight or nine heavy-duty vests, along with some helmets. “The ones that we had — if you look at our deputies, they’re not great big guys, and they’re not me, overweight and all that stuff. They’re all in pretty good shape,” he joked. “And so the vests that we had were mostly bigger vests, and they’re just too big. They don’t fit them. So anyway, Starke County wanted those. They’re going to start a SWAT team up there.”
Richwine said that with county officials’ permission, he’d like to use that money toward the cost of buying new vests that are the right size for his deputies.
