A state audit has prompted an adjustment in the adult breakfast price at Eastern Pulaski Schools. Superintendent Dan Foster told the school board last week that school food authorities have to be audited once every three years. “They come in. They check your prices. They look at your calories. They just check everything out,” he explained. “It’s a federal program, so they want to make sure federal dollars are being spent appropriately.”
Foster says the only issue they found was that the cost of adult breakfast needed to be four cents higher. The school board agreed Monday to raise the price from $1.25 to $1.29. The change doesn’t affect student meal prices.
Meanwhile, board members also ratified the selection of food service vendors. Gordon Food Service will serve as the major food distributor. Dairy products will come from Prairie Farms Dairy, while bakery goods will be provided by Aunt Millie’s Bakery.
Foster said the cost of food products will be about the same. “Some things went up just a little bit and some things went down, but really, there were no major changes,” he told board members. “It’s pretty stagnant, which – amen.”
Eastern Pulaski purchases the food through the Northern Indiana Educational Services Center. However, the organization is now asking the local school boards to sign off on the selections, as well.
