The cafeteria staff at Eastern Pulaski Community Schools will be receiving a pay bump, following a decision made by school board members in a special session they held last week.
School board members considered an updated food service pay schedule for the cafeteria staff when they met on Thursday. Cafeteria staff was paid around $8 to serve as a substitute and the starting pay for an employee was $8.20.
School board members voted to increase the sub-rate and the starting pay to $9 an hour. Superintendent Dan Foster added that existing employees also received an increase to their current salary.
Foster noted that the recent addition of more lunchtime choices has added to the amount of work that the position requires.
He explained, “They’ve had a lot more options for kids, in both buildings, the Middle School/High School and even at the Elementary. They’re trying different things but the downside to that is that it takes a little more help to prepare and more help to clean up so we did try to recognize that they needed a bump in pay.”
In addition to adjusting the pay schedule, school board members approved eight hires for the Eastern Pulaski Elementary School Café personnel and filled eleven positions at the Middle/High School. Those hires can be found below.
