The Hamlet-Davis Township Volunteer Fire Department is looking to have more immediate control over the town’s siren. “They have an issue about the siren going off and getting stuck, and they want to move the controls down to the fire house,” Town Council President Dave Kesvormas explained Wednesday.
He said the siren would stay in the center of town, but the fire department would have the ability to shut it off immediately from the fire station. Department volunteers could also manually activate the siren during a tornado or other emergency.
Kesvormas said a preliminary estimate put the cost under $3,000, but the fire department is working to get a more formal quote. He said the cost will most likely come out of the fire department’s budget.
