When Knox students return to class Thursday, there will be a few new faces. The school board hired some new teachers during this month’s regular meeting.
Elementary School Principal Michelle Tarnow introduced board members to new third grade teachers Dennis Briciu and Elizabeth Garber. Briciu comes to Knox Elementary after teaching for four years in Walkerton, while Garber has taught at Kankakee Valley and Morgan Township. Other teachers new to Knox Schools include Sixth Grade Math and Science Teacher Kaitlin Miller and Middle and High School Choir Teacher Josiah South.
New Elementary School Assistant Principal Cory Masson, who was hired back in June, introduced himself to board members during July’s meeting. “Honestly, just ecstatic about being back,” he said. “Thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to be back. It’s just so nice to be surrounded by so many familiar faces, especially this lady I’m going to be working with every day. I feel Mrs. Tarnow and I are going to just be a phenomenal team moving forward, and I can’t wait to see what we can do with the elementary and what the future brings.”
Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart said that apart from some open classified staff positions, everything else was just about filled, as of the July 17 board meeting. “We’re pretty close, fortunately,” he said. “That could change, though. With us starting early and other districts not starting, I know we have a teacher who might be interviewing yet, and we might have an administrator that might be interviewing yet. So it could still fluctuate; hopefully not.”
As part of the personnel items, the Knox School Board also officially accepted the retirement of Deputy Treasurer Linda Binkowski. However, she’ll keep working until January 1, 2019.
