Public Hearing on Pulaski County Wind Turbine Regulations Tonight

Pulaski County residents will have the chance to offer their opinions on the county’s wind turbine regulations tonight. The Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on proposed changes to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance.

If approved, the update would tighten restrictions on the placement of wind turbines. Among other changes, it would increase the minimum setback from nonparticipating properties to 3.5 times the turbine’s overall height or a quarter mile, whichever is greater.

The proposed ordinance update would also repeal the county’s rules on campaign signs. They attempted to regulate things like the size and number of signs on a given property, as well as when they’re allowed to be posted. The placement and content of the signs would still be subject to state and federal laws.

Following the hearing, the plan commission is expected to vote on the updates. They will then go to the county commissioners for final approval.

Tonight’s Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission meeting starts at 7:00 EDT at the Star City Community Building at 2550 East Key Street, following the board of zoning appeals meeting at 6:00.

The BZA will hold public hearings over a pair of special exception requests. One would allow Jim McDaniel to build a pole barn closer to the property line than the Unified Development Ordinance would normally allow, on a piece of land on State Road 119 near Star City. The other would allow Michael Wireman to place a mobile home that’s somewhat smaller than the county’s requirements on property owned by his parents on County Road 1150 West near Medaryville.
