New street signs will soon be going up in Francesville. Clerk-Treasurer Linda Bennett says it’s to comply with state standards that call for both capital and lower-case letters on street signs. She says the town has been buying the signs over the past couple years, and now the Street Department is getting ready to put them up.
Additionally, Francesville officials recently attended an informational meeting on this year’s round of Community Crossings grants. Bennett says the Indiana Department of Transportation is requiring communities to try to get at least three bids for their projects, which can be a challenge for small towns. On the other hand, Francesville’s small size means it would only have to cover 25 percent of the cost, while the state would pay the rest.
Bennett notes that Francesville has been able to redo quite a few roads, thanks to previous rounds of the Community Crossings program. This year’s Community Crossings grant application is due by September 28.
