Knox High School Roof Work Nearing Completion

Construction is wrapping up at Knox High School. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board Tuesday that the high school’s new roof is almost complete. “The only thing left is there’s about 5,000 square feet of stone that still needs to go up above the pool area,” he explained. “They delivered stone today, and they hopefully will finish that up this weekend.”

He said the reason stone is being used in that section is that the roof can’t be fastened to the building without breaking the vapor barrier above the pool. Stone won’t be needed on the rest of the new roof.

Additionally, Reichhart said some rusty roof panels on the south side of the building need to be fixed. “They’ve got rust holes in them, and water can leak through those panels and it may be that’s how we’re getting some leaks into the old section of the roof that we did not replace over the office area, where that joins,” he said. “So we’re working with our roofing company. They’re going to try and bond it because you can’t replace those panels. It’s impossible. They’re out of date. So we’re going to try and bond it and then paint it, and hopefully, that will solve the issues.”

It was reported that there had been some issues causing roof leaks in the gym and cafeteria, but they have since been resolved and costs have been reimbursed.

Meanwhile, board members agreed to let Reichhart get updated cost estimates for fencing for around the high school athletic facilities.
