Pulaski County’s proposed wind turbine ban may move a step closer to reality tonight. The advisory plan commission will consider the county commissioners’ list of suggested changes to its recommendation to ban wind energy convergence systems.
While large-scale commercial wind farms would be banned, the commissioners are recommending that landowners have the option to build noncommercial and micro turbines, in certain circumstances. The new language also attempts to provide more legal justification for banning commercial operations. It also specifies how the new regulations would be incorporated into the larger Unified Development Ordinance.
Tonight, the plan commission will be asked to accept or deny the commissioners’ recommendations. The proposal will then go back to the county commissioners for a final decision.
In other business tonight, the plan commission is expected to discuss changes to the county’s regulations on campaign signs. Members generally agreed to remove the “special signs” portion of the Unified Development, and the county commissioners voted to do that. But no formal vote was ever actually taken by the plan commission.
Tonight’s Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission meeting starts at 7:00 EDT at the Pulaski County Highway Garage, following the board of zoning appeals meeting at 6:00.
