Kankakee Valley REMC will not be merging with Jasper County REMC. The two cooperatives’ boards of directors have decided to end consolidation talks, according to a press release.
They had been looking into whether a merger would improve service and lower costs, but Jasper County REMC Board President Kerry Miller says that in the end, the two boards felt the consolidation would not be in their consumers’ best interest at this time. They don’t think members will see any negative effects from the decision. Kankakee Valley REMC Board President Otto Werner believes that even though they won’t be merging, the two cooperatives will continue to have a great relationship.
However, the two groups say they’ll continue reviewing potential consolidation options in the future. Additionally, Kankakee Valley REMC is looking for a new CEO, after its longtime executive retired last month.
