North Judson-San Pierre School Board members considered a request Tuesday night from the FFA seeking permission to attend the National FFA Convention next week.
The convention will be held in Indianapolis from Wednesday, October 24th through Saturday, October 27th. As a part of the request, Agricultural Educator and FFA Advisor Emily Duvall shared a detailed itinerary for the board members to review.
Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin provided some input about the opportunity, “I wanted you to know that I think this is great for our kids.” She continued, “[Duvall] has done this now for the past few years so I fully support it.”
Members saw no problem with the request and provided unanimous approval.
It was mentioned that the trip costs approximately $180 per student. Dr. Zupin noted that the FFA members have the opportunity to help pay their way by selling tickets for the annual pork chop fundraiser.
The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation has a very active chapter of FFA. Student officials regularly attend leadership conferences to improve team building and bonding techniques and all the members take part in various community service projects.
For instance, FFA members pitched in to help repaint more than 95 of the town’s fire hydrants over the summer. Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe has commented that he feels confident the organization would be willing to help out with similar projects in the future if town officials requested assistance.
