The Oregon-Davis School Corporation’s 2019 budget was officially adopted by the school board Monday, according to Superintendent Dr. Don Harman. The total estimated budget adds up to about $8.4 million.
Harman says taxpayers can expect a bit of a tax increase in 2019, following the approval the school referendum earlier this year. “We would anticipate our tax rate will be anywhere between $1.17 to $1.20,” he explains. “Currently, our tax rate is $1.07, but since we did pass the referendum, we know that that will increase by 10 cents, which would be roughly around that $1.17.”
Another change from previous budgets is the consolidation of four of the school corporation’s funds into two, as part of Indiana’s overhaul of the school funding structure. To get ready, Harman says board members passed a resolution Monday to establish the new Education and Operations funds.
The 2019 budget calls for an Education Fund of about $3 million and an Operations Fund of about $3.6 million. Harman says the budget adoption also included the corporation’s capital projects and bus replacement plans.
