Election Day Duties Shared with Pulaski County Election Board

Pulaski County Election Board members were informed about what to expect on Election Day when they met last week.

Election board members Patty Sullivan and Jessye Gilley were instructed to be at the Pulaski County Court House at 5 a.m. on Tuesday. They were told they will be assisting with various tasks, working as support staff.

Election Assistant Laura Bailey explained that the first calls will start coming in around 5:15 a.m. as the poll workers begin setting up for the 6 a.m. start time. The election board members will assist with fielding these calls and directing workers towards a solution.

Bailey explained that the members also have the opportunity to accompany the mechanics as well as Pulaski County IT Director Matt Voltz and IT Consultant Willie DeGroot and on any runs that they may have to attend to.

Additionally, Bailey said members will be responsible for sorting out absentee ballots prior to their tabulation.

She noted, “At one o’clock, our canvas board will come in and you guys and whoever else is around will help sort the received absentee ballots by precinct, then they’ll have to be opened. We count the actual physical ballots, not the votes.”

Once the absentee ballots are all accounted for, Bailey said the specific votes will remain undetermined until the polls close.

Bailey explained, “When 6 o clock hits, we’ll get the first results of the absentees, they’ll go ahead and hit that button and we’ll get the first report but the first vote center will be in here about 6:25.”

Bailey added that if there is any downtime during the day, the members are free to visit the vote centers just to get an idea of how things are coming along throughout the day.
