North Judson Town Council members are expected to consider an ordinance amending the waterworks schedule of rates and charges when they meet tonight.
Back in October, Umbaugh representative Eric Walsh came before the council proposing a 15 percent rate increase to water utility bills in order to help fund the town’s water project which is being funded through a combination of grant funding as well as an SRF Loan.
During that meeting, Walsh reported that the bump would result in a customer who uses an average of 4,000 gallons per billing cycle seeing an additional charge of approximately $4.00 while residents who utilize a minimal amount of water each month would pay about $3.40 more. At the time of his presentation, Walsh noted that all the figures were not finalized so the specifics could have been adjusted since then.
The Town is tackling this water project in order to bring both water towers up to OSHA standards with external and internal rehabilitation, add a backup generator for the water system to address an IDEM requirement, upgrade the existing well pumps and add another, larger well.
Council members will receive public presentations from Officer Manager Mitch Hansel from Fleis & Vandenbrink Engineering as well as Starke County Economic Development Executive Director Larry Wickert.
They’re also anticipated to continue their discussion over employee health insurance and service contracts for the North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in North Judson Town Hall.
