The Eastern Pulaski School Board wants more time before finalizing a legal representation agreement for 2019. Last month, school corporation attorney Tim Murray presented a proposal calling for a flat fee of $2,000 per month, in exchange for a list of specified services.
Murray told board members that he’s been looking to take a more proactive role, rather than working on an as-needed basis. He said the change had been requested a few months ago by former school board president Terri Johnston. Murray said he modeled the proposal after the agreement that Rochester Community Schools has with its attorney.
The problem is that the $2,000 monthly figure was not included in the 2019 budget. In the end, the school board decided to table the agreement until next month. Outgoing board member Mike Tetzloff said that while he liked many of the concepts in Murray’s proposal, he wondered whether the school corporation could do without some of them, to bring the agreement in line with the budget. Board member Rob Zeider asked if there were any areas where Murray’s proposal would overlap with resources the school corporation already has available.
