The Hive’s Social Gathering Will Spotlight Local Charities and Provide Them with Funding for the Future

Members of the local Ladies’ Giving Circle, ‘The Hive’ and their guests will assemble at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center tonight for the group’s annual social gathering.

Tonight’s event will commence at 5:30 p.m. and will run until about 7 p.m.

If you still haven’t heard ‘the buzz’ about this charitable organization, The Hive is a group of local ladies who pay dues to help fund various community organizations and projects. It was established through the Starke County Community Foundation by Co-Founders Andrea Cox and Jessica Martinovic.

Each year, a handful of charities are selected as finalists and representatives of those organizations have the opportunity to speak about their cause during the gathering.

This year’s finalists include Drew’s Gift of Music, the Cheryl Lyn Welter Family Charitable Foundation, the Hope Restored Recovery Home and the Oregon Township Fire Department.

All finalists will receive some grant funding. However, the amount they receive is determined by how many votes they gather from Hive members. The group with the most votes will get $2,000, the organization with the next highest vote count will receive $1,500 and the remaining two organizations will receive $750 each.

In addition to highlighting those local organizations, the event will also feature a presentation from keynote speaker Stephanie Jones. Jones, aka ‘The Giving Gal’ has been a recipient of the Cisco Humanitarian Award and is the author of the book ‘The Giving Challenge: 40 Days to a More Generous Life’.

Director of Development Jessica Martinovic noted that if there needs to be a cancelation due to weather, it will be announced on the Hive’s page on the Starke County Community Foundation Website.  If you have any questions, you can contact the SCCF at 574-772-3665.
