Hamlet’s comprehensive planning process cleared another procedural hurdle Wednesday. The town council approved a $40,000 contract with HWC Engineering and a $4,400 contract with the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission.
KIRPC Grant Administrator Shawn Cain explained that both groups will be involved in the creation of Hamlet’s plan. “HWC will be performing the actual plan process, and they’ll be doing all of the public hearing meetings and public input and comment periods, things like that,” she explained. “We will be working with them right along, just to kind of make sure the process goes smoothly and everything’s prepared accurately for OCRA and we can get their quick sign-off on it.”
The cost of the plan will be covered by grants from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and the Starke County Community Foundation.
HWC is also putting plans together for North Judson and Starke County. They are part of the preparations for a potential regional Stellar Community application.
