The Knox-Center Township Fire Department and surrounding agencies spent multiple hours battling a house fire on 200 S Monday evening.
Authorities report that at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday, March 11th, the Knox-Center Township Fire Department responded to a small kitchen fire in the 4500 E block of 200 S, just south of Knox.
The incident report goes on to say that once on the scene, it was confirmed that the residence’s kitchen was fully engulfed and heavy smoke was coming from the second story. The department worked to extinguish the fire for over four hours.
The occupant of the residence exited the home without injuries.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security – Division of Fire and Building Safety was contacted to assist with the investigation. The origin and cause of the fire has been undetermined at this time.
In their report, Department officials addressed the agencies that helped out with this case, specifically thanking Starke County EMS, the American Red Cross, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security – Division of Fire and Building Safety and Starke County EMA as well as the Hamlet-Davis Township, Washington Township, North Judson-Wayne Township, San Pierre, and Winamac Fire Departments.
