The Hamlet American Legion is looking to launch a Junior Shooting Sports program. One of the program’s organizers asked the town council Wednesday if there would be any issues with holding it on the Legion’s property along the train tracks.
It was explained that younger kids will use BB guns, while older children will use air rifles. The coaches will be NRA-certified, and a backstop will be built.
Council President Dave Kesvormas said he didn’t see any reason why the program couldn’t move forward. “That’s your property,” he said. “I mean, you guys would have to accept the liability. If something happens, I know the town’s going to hold itself harmless from anything like that.”
During Wednesday’s Hamlet Park Board meeting, board members approved the purchase of concrete for the installation of the new playground equipment and plywood to repair the skatepark.
