More than $18,000 in grant funding was presented to the Knox School Board Monday. The school corporation is once again getting $15,000 for Kindergarten Countdown from the Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund. Director of Curriculum and Instruction Peggy Shidaker told board members that the Countdown camp is designed for any incoming kindergarten student who hasn’t attended preschool.
She said the Hardesty funding covers the cost of teachers, aides, and bus transportation, along with other expenses. Thanks to the $15,000, Shidaker said the school will once again be able to hold two camps this year.
Meanwhile, the school corporation also got its annual payment from the Knox Community School Corporation Student Scholarship/Presentation Fund at the Starke County Community Foundation. This year’s payment was for more than $3,100. That money may be used to bring in speakers or program presenters or to provide scholarships to students graduating from Knox Community Schools. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart said he would check for more specifics.
Starke County Community Foundation Director of Development Jessica Martinović was in attendance Monday to present the checks to school officials.
