The Knox School Board approved five retirements Monday.
Food Services Director Sandra Landry is retiring Friday, while High School Math Teacher Rose Lowry and Middle School History Teacher Alan Selge will both retire at the end of the school year. Bus Driver Diana Freshour and Bus Driver/Paraprofessional Connie Howard are set to retire over the coming months.
School Board President Kirk Bennett took time Monday to recognize the retirees. “Thank you, Sandy, for your services,” he said. “We appreciate it very much, as well as all the retiring folks. That’s a lot of great people. But it’s time for them to start their next phase of life, obviously, so good for them. We’re going to miss them.”
Board Member Mary Lynn Ritchie noted that Selge will be hard to replace. “It’s interesting to see Alan finally retire,” she said. “What a loss. I mean, he was a character, and he gave those kids – they love the history. I did have somebody ask me, like, ‘Okay, so what about the eighth grade trips to Washington?’ I said, ‘Maybe this was it.’ I mean, I don’t know. I hope not. Hopefully, somebody steps into those shoes, but those are big shoes.”
Also in Monday’s personnel report, the school board voted not to renew the contract of Head Varsity Cheer Coach Alyssa Smrt. The board also accepted Kevin Kroft’s resignation from his duties as Knox High School’s head custodian.
