North Judson Town Council Awards Cemetery Mowing Contract to Current Service Provider

TJ’s Lawn Care will continue handling the mowing duties for Pioneer and Highland Cemeteries following a decision made by North Judson Town Council members Monday night.

Three separate bids were opened and read into the record. Tim Rhodes from TJ’s Lawn Care submitted the lowest bid at $12,000, Mike Derrickson Sr. submitted a bid of $12,500 and Mike Fornelli submitted a bid of $20,995.

Council president John Rowe noted what the approved contract from Rhodes includes.

He read from the quote, “Highland Cemetery, 8 mowings and then if three-quarters of the cemetery exceeds 10 inches of growth there will be an additional charge of $200 and 8 mowings at Pioneer Cemetery with the same thing, if three-quarters exceeds 10 inches growth, it will be another $50.”

Rhodes noted that the only change to his contract was adding in the language that dealing with additional charges. Sometimes weather conditions can cause the grass to grow more rapidly during certain times in the season, so he said he wanted to be proactive, should the extra mowing be necessary.

He said he’ll still be providing the same services as last year which included clearing the cemeteries of leaves, debris and weeds as well as cleaning up old or disheveled decorations.

Rhodes informed the council in the past that he’s worked on multiple other cemeteries so he feels he has an expertise when it comes to what keeps a cemetery looking well maintained.

Multiple council members weighed in on his performance last year, stating that they were pleased with the work he did.
