Knox teachers will be returning to school a day earlier in August, in exchange for getting to leave earlier on some Fridays.
Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board last week that for the past year, teachers have been doing professional development for 30 minutes every Friday. For next year, teachers and administrators have agreed on a plan in which teachers have a full day of professional development at the beginning of the school year, but will still meet on one or two Fridays a month.
“We feel it’s important to still have professional development throughout the school year because things come up, and we need to help the teachers get through some things,” Reichhart said. “So this was a compromise. Really, it wasn’t a compromise because we both agreed. But it’s different than what we did this year.”
The school board approved the adjustment, which calls for a first teacher day on Friday, August 2 followed by a teacher professional development day on Monday, August 5. The first day of class for students remains Tuesday, August 6.
