The appearance of the grass at some Pulaski County government properties is drawing concerns from the county commissioners. Commissioner Jerry Locke brought up the county’s lawn mowing contract during Monday’s meeting.
“Things haven’t been taken care of like they should be,” he said. “I called her Thursday morning, left her a message. She didn’t get back with me. I called her Friday morning. Luckily, I got to talk to her. She promised me faithfully she’d have everything done by the weekend. The East Annex is up like that. I put in a phone call this morning. No answer.”
The commissioners have contracted mowing out to TK Lawn Service. The arrangement began last year, but the commissioners didn’t get around to renewing the contract for a second year until the middle of last month, well after the mowing season had already begun. Locke asked County Attorney Kevin Tankersley to review the contract, to see what options the county has going forward.
Locke added that County Maintenance Director Mia Salyers said her department would be more than happy to take the mowing back. “I said, ‘Well, do you have money in your budget for a mower?’ She said, ‘Well, maybe a cheap one.’ As much mowing as got to be done, I think if we do purchase a mower, it should be a commercial grade,” Locke said.
Locke said he thought TK Lawn Service did a wonderful job last year, and he wasn’t given any reason for the apparent lack of mowing now.
