Knox Street Superintendent Re-Registers Composting Facility with IDEM

The composting facility in the City of Knox has been re-registered through the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Street Superintendent Jeff Borg informed Board of Works members about updating the registration when members met last Wednesday. He noted that the permit lasts five years.

Borg was notified that some officials are interested in taking a look at the site in person.

Borg explained, “Lisa Hopkins, she’s the permit manager for the composting facility. She’d like to come and do a site visit of the composting facility on August first.”

He continued, “I called her back and invited her up so I’ll meet with her and she said it might be like four people, a couple of geologists and her and somebody else.”

The composting facility is located north of City Hall, at the corner of Shield and Mound Streets. Residents may drop off grass clippings, leaves and brush at the site as long as they are not in bags.
