Knox Residents Reportedly Taken into Custody on Drug Charges Following Response to Fatal Medical Call

A fatality is being reported following a response to a medical call Thursday evening.

Knox Police Chief Harold Smith reports that city officers responded to an initial medical call in the 300 S Block of East Street around 11:55 p.m.

Upon arrival, Knox officers, assisted by the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and Starke County EMS, conducted CPR on an unresponsive female.

During the course of the investigation, the 28-year-old female was later pronounced deceased at the scene by the Starke County Coroner Jack Rosa.

Narcotics and paraphernalia were apparently located on the scene. At this time, authorities report that the female’s death is suspected to have been in connection with a possible drug overdose.

Coroner Rosa reported that an official cause of death is pending toxicology and autopsy results.

Other occupants of the residence were reportedly placed into custody on multiple drug-related charges.

The incident remains under investigation with the Knox City Police Department and Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.

Additional details will be provided as they become available.
