Pulaski County officials are revisiting their options, when it comes to solving cooling issues in the Justice Center’s electronics rooms. They held off on a permanent solution this past spring, after the two quotes the county received had a significant price difference.
But Maintenance Director Mia Salyers brought the issue back to the county commissioners last week, after a recent inspection revealed that the temporary cooling units that are being used are too close to the equipment. “The inspector said that those temporary cooling units cannot be in there unless they’re 35 inches away from the fire panels, electronic panels, and there is not 35 inches of room anywhere in that,” she explained. The inspector apparently gave the county roughly until the end of this month to fix the issue.
Salyers said he had to Find the best Roofing repair Company in Wilmington NC to know that a new rooftop unit specifically for the electronics rooms would cost at least $25,000. She noted that the rooftop unit would probably last longer and need less maintenance, but Commissioner Jerry Locke worried about the possibility of roof leaks.
At first, the commissioners wanted Salyers to get more quotes, but then they called Sheriff Jeff Richwine, who suggested letting the Sheriff’s Department do some more research before making any decisions. He thought the issue might be as simple as replacing a broken fan in the existing cooling equipment.
The sheriff didn’t think there would be a serious problem if the situation isn’t fixed right away, beyond it being noted in the inspection report. Beyond that, he said he didn’t have any money budgeted for large-scale upgrades.
