The Winamac Town Park’s “swinging bridge” will finally be getting inspected. During Thursday’s park board meeting, board member and town manager Brad Zellers said the inspection company will be there in two weeks.
“Finally, they’re coming, so we’ll get that done,” he said. “We got an email from them today.”
The regular inspection has taken on added importance, as the park board and community members begin planning for the bridge’s upcoming centennial in 2023. Some major upgrades are proposed, including a decorative lighting feature and a new paint job.
The town has hired Indianapolis engineering firm Butler, Fairman & Seufert to do the inspection at a cost of $6,500. Zellers previously said the high cost is partially due to the fact that the inspection will include a check for lead paint. The town council has agreed to dip into the Rainy Day Fund to help with the cost.
