Knox officials held a public hearing over the 2020 budget during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
The City’s budget estimate for 2020 totals $3,065,579.
While no public comments were made during the hearing, Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston did provide some details about how certain figures included in the budget were determined.
He explained, “There was about a 3.5 percent average growth quotient, it’s what we used. That tells you what your max tax levy is, the maximum amount of money that you can raise from taxes.”
Houston went on to mention the actual figure associated with the proposed max tax levy.
He told members and meeting attendees, “The maximum tax levy is $1,672,926 so say $1,700,000, round-about, because you have to figure in that we’re going to get some miscellaneous revenues in for building permits or other distributions.”
According to the City’s budget notice on Indiana Gateway for Governmental Units, the budget will be up for adoption when the council meets next on Tuesday, September 24th.
