Winamac Officials Review IMPA Report, Town Rates Reportedly Low Comparatively

Winamac Town Council members were presented with a report from the Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA) when they met last Monday.

Town Manager Brad Zellers touched on what the report included.

He asked the council members, “Did you get a chance to look at that IMPA report that I brought back? Kind of shows our rates compared to other IMPA ones plus NIPSCO and the other ones around us .”

While looking over the figures, Council President Tom Murray stated that they weren’t the lowest rates listed and Town Manager Zellers explained that the lower costs are primarily associated with larger municipalities.

Murray added that he felt the report presented valuable information and Zellers agreed.

Murray noted, “That’s good to look at though.” Zellers replied, “Yeah, it is. It’s pretty neat they put that to together for us. It goes to show in perspective we’re doing the people of Winamac a pretty good job providing through IMPA.”

According to the report, Winamac residents do pay a little bit more than IMPA members on average, with Winamac’s monthly charge for 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) coming in at $64.16 and the average coming in at $60.50.

That’s where you see, as Zellers expressed, the large municipalities with more of a population bringing down the average cost.

However, when you look at prices across the board, Winamac residents are still paying considerably less than individuals who use other power suppliers.

For that same amount, Indianapolis Power & Light charges $69.57, Duke Energy Indiana charges $70.96, American Electric Power charges $71.51, NIPSCO has a monthly charge of $75.18 and Vectren Energy charges $83.64.
