The Eastern Pulaski School Board will take action tonight to fix a shortfall in the corporation’s Education Fund budget. Interim Superintendent Dr. Gib Crimmins told board members last week that the state overestimated last year’s spending when approving this year’s budget.
“Right now, you do not have enough appropriations in the Education Fund,” he explained. “You don’t have enough appropriations in there to pay things out until the end of the year.” Crimmins assured board members that the corporation does have the money but simply lacks permission to spend it. An additional appropriation will be up for board members’ approval during a special meeting tonight.
Board members are also expected to vote on the 2020 budget. The proposal totals more than $14.3 million, with almost $7.7 million of that being the Education Fund and over $4.4 million being the Operations Fund. But Crimmins has warned that at least $500,000 of Rainy Day funds will have to be used to keep the budget balanced.
Members of the public will have the chance to comment on the capital projects and bus replacement plans tonight, before board members vote on them. Tonight’s special Eastern Pulaski School Board meeting starts at 5:30 EDT in the Eastern Pulaski Conference/Meeting Center.
