The Town of Hamlet’s 2020 budget was adopted by the town council Wednesday. Overall, it totals just over $448,000, according to Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts. “So we’re asking for, in General [Fund], $311,034, which was cut a little bit,” she explained. “[Local Road & Street] is $7,250, which is about the same as last year. [Motor Vehicle Highway] is $54,600, also cut a little bit. The Park was cut a lot – asking for $8,600.”
Pitts told council members that she wasn’t too worried about the park budget, since it got a good amount of funding in recent years. She previously blamed the $19,000 cut to next year’s budget on an increase in the amount of money expected to be lost to the property tax cap.
Hamlet’s 2020 budget now goes to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance for final approval. Pitts said it won’t take long to get the final results. “I got an email today that the 1782 notices will be going out first of November,” she added, “so they’re moving faster than they every have with getting budgets back.”
Council members Connie Bailey and Brian Earnest voted to approve the proposed budget. Council President Dave Kesvormas abstained, due to his involvement in the volunteer fire department.
