A property on Locust Street that has been discussed by the Knox Board of Works multiple times in recent months was addressed once again when members met last Wednesday.
Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost noted that he and City Attorney Autumn Ferch have been coordinating with the owner of the property at 253 W. Locust Street as well as their attorney.
He said they are still not in compliance. Board member Jim Collins asked what still needs to be done and Pfost highlighted one of the remaining issues.
He explained, “I think the big thing right now is the trailers that he has out front, the enclosed trailers. He was told to put them on the side well instead of putting them on the side, he dug out an area and back them right up to the front porch and it’s just a nuisance.”
Pfost noted that there also a number of vehicles and certain ones stick out into the court in front of the house.
Attorney Ferch mentioned that fines have already been imposed and Mayor Dennis Estok added they haven’t been paid.
Estok recommended giving him a certain amount of time to bring the property into compliance and if he doesn’t, then city crews will come in to get it done and the property owner will be billed for the labor and equipment.
Since the City doesn’t have a holding yard, Street Superintendent Jeff Borg noted that they would need to consult a towing company so if any vehicles have to be removed they can be properly impounded and the owner would have to pay the storage fees.
The board members voted to give the Locust Street property owner until the next meeting which will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd, to bring his property into compliance or the City will step in.
Director Pfost will consult the agreement that was previously made to check if all the code violations listed have been addressed prior to the deadline.
