When the Knox Board of Works met earlier this month, members received an update on an unsafe structure located at 6 N. Pearl Street.
This isn’t the first time this structure has been discussed by the Board of Works.
As previously reported, it was originally slated for demolition in the summer of 2016 but the Board of Works took action to delay the enforcement in March of 2017 when they learned the property owner had plans to fix the structural issues.
The owner originally had one contractor conducting the ordered repairs on the unsafe structure. After reportedly experiencing issues with the initial contractor she enlisted the assistance of a new one.
After many months of the structure still being considered unsafe, members voted to refrain from renewing the permit to perform work at the property in July of this year.
At the Board of Work’s October meeting, Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost explained that another order to rehabilitate or demolish was delivered to the property owner of September 27th.
Pfost said a request for a hearing was received by fax, email and personal delivery within the specified 10-day time frame.
City Attorney Autumn Ferch added that she and Director Pfost have been coordinating with the property owner’s attorney to meet about this structure as well as a garage on Bender Street that was deemed unsafe.
Since the owner requested a hearing, the Board of Works permitted Director Pfost to set one for their next meeting which will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27th.
