Knox school officials aren’t expecting any major changes in the school corporation’s budget next year. During Tuesday’s budget hearing, Treasurer Kasey Clark said the proposed 2020 budget is pretty close to this year’s.
The school corporation is proposing a total budget of just over $20.4 million. More than $11.6 million of that will be the Education Fund, which is where teacher salaries are budgeted. Almost $4.5 million is being budgeted in the Operations Fund.
Clark pointed out that certain figures are estimated high, with the expectation that the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance cut them. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart anticipated that residents could end up with a slight increase in their property tax rate. “I think when we’re all said and done, and after DLGF takes a hatchet to this, we’re probably going to look at, at most, 0.02, two-cents, three-cents, increase, if any,” he said.
Clark added that just over $556,000 of the corporation’s $1.5 million Rainy Day Fund will be available for use next year if the need arises, but Reichhart stressed that there are currently no plans to actually spend it.
No one from the public showed up to comment on the budget, capital projects plan, and bus replacement plan. They will be up for adoption on October 21.
