A grant application for a new Medaryville fire station has prompted Pulaski County to update its fair housing policies. The Medaryville-White Post Township Fire Department wants to get a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant to build a new fire station north of the town hall. Since the fire department can’t actually apply for the grant, the application is going through the Pulaski County.
To qualify for the grant, the county commissioners last week agreed to rescind the fair housing resolution that had been in place and enact a more thorough fair housing ordinance. “It’s just more detailed,” said County Attorney Kevin Tankersley. “It quotes a lot of Indiana Code, and . . . in order to get the grant, they have to have this in place. Any time you’re getting federal money, you’ve got to make sure that you’re complying with federal law.”
In other business last week, the commissioners appointed Dr. Melissa Zahrt to the county’s health board, replacing Dr. Elizabeth Curtis who moved away.
