The Town of Winamac was awarded $151,278 in the Indiana Department of Transportation’s most recent round of the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program.
When council members met on Monday, Town Manager Brad Zellers reminded them that they’ll be required to supply a 25 percent match.
He noted that while there aren’t any plans to do any street paving this fall, once the spring rolls around, they should be able to get a lot of work done with the Community Crossings funds.
Zellers explained, “You’ve got a lot more money to work with and when the contractor comes to Town, your dollar goes so much further when they’re going to do more. You can get five times done for what it normally costs when you come in and do small areas.”
Councilman Alvin Parish asked if the Town will do any patching before the wintertime and Zellers responded that there are plans to patch some of the problem areas around town.
