Hamlet is getting ready for the holidays. Some annual events were scheduled by the town council Wednesday.
Hamlet will once again hold a home decorating contest. Those whose homes are decorated have a chance to win a cash prize: $100 for the first-place winner, $75 for second place, and $50 for third. Judging will take place Saturday, December 21 from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. But first, the town will hold its Christmas tree lighting on Saturday, December 7 at 6:30 p.m., following the annual Christmas social, starting at 5:00.
Town Marshal Clint Norem said he’s also planning to bring back the police department’s kids’ contest. For the past few years, Hamlet Police have invited local children to make an ornament for the town’s Christmas tree. Participants are then entered into a prize drawing.
Council members also adjusted their upcoming meeting schedule around the coming holidays. Their next meeting will be held Tuesday, November 26, followed by meetings on December 11 and December 18.
