LaPorte County Police are investigating, after a threatening text message was received by a New Prairie Middle School student Thursday night. Officers say the message came from a number the student didn’t recognize, but it included a direct threat to the school’s safety and security.
School officials eventually became aware of the threat on Friday, after it began to circulate among the students. The middle school was placed on a “lockout,” and police were sent to all of the New Prairie United School Corporation’s buildings.
The sheriff’s office says an explosives K-9 swept and secured the building. The investigation is ongoing.
