A LaPorte County traffic stop last Friday led to the arrest of a Pennsylvania man on suspicion of dealing meth. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle on the Toll Road after seeing it commit a pair of traffic infractions.
Officers say they eventually found illegal drugs and paraphernalia. They also reportedly determined that the driver, Juan R. Torres, 35, of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, was a wanted person with full extradition out of Pennsylvania. Torres now faces a Level 2 felony charge of dealing in methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
The deputy who made the traffic stop was working the Domestic Highway Enforcement program, an effort aimed at disrupting the flow of drugs and weapons. It’s one of the programs put in place as part of LaPorte County’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area designation.
