The Knox Community School Corporation is reporting success with its new security procedures. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board last week that the principals say the new Raptor system is working well.
“When we have visitors in our buildings, they give their driver’s license. It does a background check immediately and gives them a name badge to wear with their picture on it, and it’s another way of making sure that we only have people in our buildings who have checked in through the office,” Reichhart explained.
Reichhart said the new system cost just over $7,900, plus some ongoing service fees. More than $7,800 of that will come from money raised from a recent “spirit pump” campaign at the Zingo BP in Knox. Ten cents from every gallon of gas sold at the “spirit pump” went to the school corporation. Belinda Holmes donated another $1,200 to cover the remainder of the cost and the fees.
The school board officially accepted those donations last week, along with $1,500 from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and over $450 from WKVI for delinquent lunch accounts. Board members also accepted a donation from the Bennett family for the third grade field trip.
Reichhart thanked all the donors and everyone who bought gas at the “spirit pump.” “We’re once again very grateful for the families in our community and business that support our school district, and we continue to have donations for delinquent lunch accounts, which, we all know, is very valuable,” Reichhart said.
