Knox School Board Approves Change in Builders for Pole Barn Project

The Knox Community School Corporation is switching builders for an upcoming pole barn project.

The school board voted Monday to rescind the award of the bid to Arnold Lumber and award it to Cleary Construction for a cost of just over $58,000. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart explained that while Arnold Lumber’s bid was about $2,500 lower, there were a few requirements that it wasn’t able to meet on its own.

“Arnold Lumber did not have the resources to have an architect or engineer design that blueprint of a pole barn, which sounds kind of ridiculous in my opinion, but the state requires it because it’s bigger than 30,000 cubic feet,” Reichhart said. He added that once the cost of having someone draw up the plan was factored in, Cleary Construction’s bid ended up being cheaper.

The 40-by-60-foot structure will be located west of the high school. It will be used to store band and athletic equipment.
