Pulaski County emergency responders will have a new way of marking stranded vehicles during snow storms. Emergency Management Agency Director Sheri Gaillard told the county commissioners Monday that various agencies in the county have now been equipped with pink tape.
“The first person that responds to an abandoned vehicle during a snow storm, they tag it with pink tape,” she explained. “That way, it will reduce exposure to other agencies, so multiple people aren’t checking on the same vehicle.”
Gaillard said it’s part of an effort to reduce responder exposure during the winter months, developed through the Indiana Traffic Incident Management Effort (IN-TIME). She also told the commissioners that the local emergency planning committee has gotten a $2,000 grant to offer an incident command class, which will be open to any first response agency.
Meanwhile, the commissioners approved an updated hazardous materials response plan. Gaillard said the plan is very similar to the previous version. “The only changes that were made this year were to the facilities, just updating their chemicals that they’re reporting and then a couple of responder names,” she said.
She said the LEPC approved the updated plan last month.
