The Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission needs a new member. During last week’s meeting, Rick Stone stressed that he will not seek reappointment when his term ends in January. “I’ve been looking forward to this all year!” he joked.
According to the county’s website, commission members are “charged with implementing Pulaski County land-use planning (per the Unified Development Ordinance); hiring staff, as necessary, for the purposes of implementing and enforcing land-use codes; and revising the comprehensive plan and codes as necessary.”
Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer said the plan commission is already politically balanced, so the new member doesn’t have to be a Republican or Democrat. But he said it might be a good idea to appoint someone from the west side of the county.
Origer pointed out that there are some residency requirements. “You don’t have to be a landowner to be on the plan commission,” he explained. “However, if you live inside Francesville or Winamac’s jurisdiction but you own land in the county’s jurisdiction, you’re eligible. There are just limits on the number of people you can do it that way, but we don’t have a problem with that.”
Building Inspector and Plan Administrator Doug Hoover agreed to start looking for potential candidates. The final decision will be up to the county commissioners.
