North Judson-San Pierre students struggling to keep up with their lunch payments are getting some help from the local community. The school board Tuesday accepted a total of $1,100 in donations.
“We have the Starke County Sheriff’s Department donating $300,” Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin explained. “We have the VFW Post 748: $500, and we have Jim and Betty Demo for $300. And all of this will go into a lunch account that is reserved for those students who have negative balances or don’t have enough money on a certain day to have a hot lunch.”
Zupin expressed the school corporation’s appreciation for the donations. The Sheriff’s Department and VFW donations were part of larger efforts that benefited schools around Starke County.
